Match Report by Tony Middleton |

HORNCHURCH 2 AVELEY 2 Urchins took an early lead, when Jake Dallinson made ground on the left, and sent over a perfect cross for MARK JANNEY to neatly place his header wide of keeper Woolley. It could have been two shortly afterwards, when Janney made a long run in from the right and crossed low to Ross Wall, who hit his shot inches wide of the post. A Wall solo run through the middle brought a good save out of Woolley, and Aveley drew level with their first and only shot of the first half when LEON DIACZUK hit a first time volley past Michael Bowditch from the edge of the area. Two talking points at half time – would there be enough balls left to finish the match, given the number that had already disappeared towards the Ingrebourne, and who was the ex-Urchin who played at West Ham last night? Urchins continued to dominate after the interval, and took the lead when Janney made the running, turned the ball in to Kris Lee, whose shot was well saved by Woolley, and ROSS WALL followed up to hammer the ball home. Lee almost made it three a minute later, but Woolley saved well, Wall went close with a hard shot from the edge of the area after Mitchell Stuart-Evans had played a long ball upfield. Ross Wall then saw his shot rebound off the post and with five minutes to go, Aveley levelled the score when LEON DIACZUK took a pass from Ruel and again hit his volley home from the edge of the area. Aveley held out under heavy pressure to gain a draw, and for referee Paul Faithfull, who has officiated here on many previous occasions, the most recent being against Dover, this was to be his last, as he is emigrating to Australia. And who is the ex-Urchin who played at West Ham last night? Ahmed Deen, who played for Macclesfield at West Ham. Ahmed made his debut at Boston Utd in November 2004, and had one further appearance, at Cambridge City in the Trophy. |
